5.0l 500BHP NA Rover V8 take 3
Discussion
5.0 with TA Heads, why are so few people using them in the UK?
The camshaft is a roller design It is 596 lift in and ex
258 degrees at 50 duration
Pulls from 3000rpm strong to 7200
A 630 roller cam is available with same duration and picked up 20hp and 15ftlbs across the range

Look like it is 337cid = over 5.5 litre engine..
Spending +2100£ + vat and freight charge to get extra power is not cheap.
And what i have seen only one and hear 2nd dyno test results they have got approx 100hp less than those australian made engines.. Best results what John Eales say it is 460hp with 5.3litre engine.
If you run street, you get lot of more torque on low speed rpm with fully ported rover v8 head´s..
My 5.2l engine give 130Nm (95lb-Ft) more torque on the 3500rpm than this race engine. Street car it is very important..
I hope to get my car run next summer, and see if offset hand ported valve seat will perform better than STD 3angle valve seat.. Also throat is 2.15mm bigger now, but it is offset.. And still running STD home ported heads..

500 NA hp from a rover engine?
sounds good, can they handle such power (reliability)? and is such on a base 5.0 TVR rover engine?
or could such also be done with a 3.5 base engine and then made larger, guess such would be costly...
at what cost would be such package, is that building it up yourself or do they build it up for you.

Hi transmitter ,
Ive used ta heads on a 5.0 and yes atttained over 500hp at 5500rpm with a milder solid roller cam than used in your example .
And with rover firing order sounds so much angrier than a ls or sc rover.

Be interested to hear what Dave Baker makes of those number
Im in Australia rev. Its in an mg rv8.
What is so hard to believe?
5 litre v8. Pushrods and 2 valves are in LS chevs, v8 supercars, nascars etc
Power is more than a sum of parts, same parts had 380hp old engine , 530hp new engine.
150 gained by experience and $$, 1% ers add up
Yes I did use a wise old championship winning engine builder (his first rover build) reworked the TA heads, jed crossover manifold and at a cost equal to their retail price and built a new equal length tri y header and exhaust to boot.
A bigger duration roller cam than the 245 in it and wed be closer to 600hp.
Wet sump, lucas dizzy, jenveys and haltech

Hi Alan,
My car is in dry secure storage in bucks.
I'm flying back to the UK soon and plan on visiting Topcats a local TVR shop and discuss continuing work on my car. Complete the chassis build, mount the body and install the EPS. That will be affordable I hope until I save up further funds.
You're out that way. Any other shops worth looking at?
I'd also like to hear more from our 500+ bhp friends in this thread.

What transmission and clutch setup do you guys run when pushing 500bhp?
Running a 3.5lt RV8 Turbo, pushing 350hp 375tq to the wheels. Stock LT77 trans with Centerforce 10in Clutch.
Thinking of building a 5.2lt with same turbo setup, but worried about the trans and clutch.

topcats are good. they know exactly what they are doing. their work is always immaculate.
Thanks for the recommendation Jes,I'll have to get them to come look at my rolling chassis for some ballpark work costs as I cannot afford to overstep my funds for the next step in completing the build.
Thanks.

I had a 5.0 TT with a rebuilt LT77 and it was fine. I never loaded it up to much in 1st or 2nd and if I did it would smoke the tyres. Rear diff was 2.84 with lsd. I loved the whole package. I couldn't find a decent single plate clutch so had to buy a twin plate mcleod which I think may have been a chevy item. It was mounted with the bolts half way into the ring gear. I also had to put a couple of slots into the bell housing to get pressure plate clearance. The pressure plate had 3 levers instead of a dozen fingers. It was a really nice clutch with a light pedal feel.Running a 3.5lt RV8 Turbo, pushing 350hp 375tq to the wheels. Stock LT77 trans with Centerforce 10in Clutch.

A friend did a conversion with a 3.08 diff and he wrecked 2 gearboxes but he had no mechanical empathy.
