Rover powered Cerb

The best engine for a cerb is the original one but if it's dead then the ideal donar has to be the lsx 1-7. Any of them will do nicely and you can dictate the horsepower according to the depth of your pockets.

Just out of interest, given a £10k budget for engine+ transplant into a Cerbera... what power could be achieved/ which LS would be fitted??
Better still, how far can one go with forced induction without compromising reliability too much?

Well, there's a n/a conversion underway using a basic ls1 engine which will allow installation and mapping costs to be assessed. It's not as easy to do as people hope but it will work once the wrinkles are ironed out.
My business is more about building bespoke engines with uprated internals to suit. I build any variation ls1 to ls7/hybrid/Darton 427.
A stock crate ls1 engine may make 350 hp, crate ls6 just over 400hp, similar for the ls2 and 512 hp for an ls7. A blown darton would be mental and I have one to build soon. I don't bother with the crate engines because they usually need changing to suit and I don't want to dismantle them. This is why I build them up from scrath.
I'd suggest an ls1/ls6 hybrid with a bigger cam and better internals. That would be heading for 450 hp and similar torque. Fit turbo's and you see a decent hike in power and a very nice increase in torque but I wouldn't bother using turbo's on stock pistons. One detonation spike will break them and maybe the liner to. For boost I'd use my forged pistons along with total seal rings.

I often hear talk of what engine people would put in a certain car, but what other engines are in Cerbera's now.
My Rover one is used daily. Are there any running around with LS or M3 engines?
The LS powered cerb won't be long in coming. I know it fits so it's just a case of sorting out the gremlins. A stock engine won't break the gearbox so should be a good conversion. Thing is, ls1's make big torque from 2k like appx 300 lbs/ft.

The car hasn't sold because its not for sale but has generated lots of interest. Its my own car and what we are selling is the conversion.
Now I know that RV8 into Cerbera is not to everyones taste, but I love it. Its fast enough, sounds great and is used daily to take three kids to school. I have to add its also very reliable and easy to maintain.
What a great idea. All you need to do now is fit an auto gearbox too and I will want one!

Funny you should say that!!
A RV8 powered cerbera isn't my idea of what a cerbera should be, however I fully applaud people doing their own thing to their cars .. great to see you personalising your own cerb in such a fantastic manner Phil ..
I think that as cerb prices go lower and lower some sort of conversion kit for owners to do this themselves would be great .. cerbs will fall into teh hands of very practical enthusiast who could do this soprt of thing themselves but wouldn't have the resources to pay for a third party to do it .. a kind of *winter project* for people who love the cerb shape but are still wary of teh engine.
Do you think a conversion kit would be a marketable commodity Phil?

Now this is would be probably be a just about acceptable engine upgrade.....

Hi
Got anywhere with the Cerby Chev? - Nice all alloy 450 /450 powerhouse with affordable MTBs would be rather suitable in my opinion..
It is coming along... www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=&t=311988&h=0
