I bought one of these for £80 ish? probably 5 years ago now and during a clean out of my room i found it.

Is it 'actually' for life?

If I apply now will I still be able to do it?

Life was such at the time that I put it on the back burner and completely forgot about it.

I know, i could ask them directly, but plenty of advanced drivers on the forums who may know.

Cheers

All you can do is ask - the T&Cs on the current SfL forms say if you haven't asked for a refund within 3 years you won't get one, and a refund would have been only the test cost part.
Also, the full price now is £139, so expecting to get the full course at the (very) old rate would be unreasonable? It's not like buying postage stamps!

I'll give them a call - keen to do it.

I'd even pay a 'top up' rate if they asked for it.

Unless 'skills for life' means 'skills until it expires'!?

IAM would have received the money 5 years ago, so by the time it is adjusted for inflation/ interest and what not, it should be a similar amount.

Interesting concept. Good luck with that. They might go for it.

If it doesn't work then I lost £80 a few years ago. Written it off already - however, id quite like to give it a go if i can.

Suggest that you contact the chairman or membership secretary of your local group and ask for their advice and help. Their contact details will be on the IAM web-site. As membership secretary of a group I have helped a few in a similar situation to yourself but only 2 to 3 years after buying SFL.

I'd have to disagree - surely Head Office are the only people who can answer this. Rather than waste the time of a local volunteer, give the staff at the Chiswick a call.

The group only get a small proportion of the SFL cost, currently approximately 22%, the rest is retained by the IAM. The committee members of the group to which I belong are happy to assist with this type of query for a person in our area.
