It's not a must.

I don't have a copy of the highway code to hand now, so do you legally have to give way to buses pulling out in front of you?
I think it says you should but not must. Anyone have the answer?

most bus drivers are wkers, they will pull out from a bus stop whilst still indicating left, when your in the middle of overtaking them.
Where I live (and I appreciate its different elsewhere) the bus drivers are consistently courteous to cyclists, and good at indicating to motorists. They also flash their indicators in thanks when I let them pull out. Which is nice. Once one even let me out of a junction; and I drive a BMW so this never normally happens.arfur daley said:

+1 (to the wker bit plus somehow they seem to have invent the light speed engine. However, when you are waiting for a bus they never seem to use it, probably something to do with relativity.)I give them space because if you don't they take it anyway, whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist.
Well let's put it this way, regardless of what the highway code says, and regardless of what the law says, there is a big red vehicle stopped at the side of the road up ahead.
You make a mirror check and observe that it is appropriate and possible to go around said big red bus so you start to establish a plan to do this safely, when you observe that the driver of said big red vehicle has put the right indicators on.
From this observation, what do you anticipate might happen next?
From this observation link, does your plan change and if so how in order to keep a safe space around your vehicle and eliminate any surprises that might be coming your way?
Hint:- This is the advanced driving forum.

Edinburgh Lothian Buses tend to be well driven in my experience. Why wouldn't you let a bus out? If you're in a town it'll stop again soon and you'll pass it, if you're not in a town you'll probably get a chance to overtake. And if you don't get a chance to overtake it, it'll be busy anyway so you're just as quick on the bus

198 is to do with pedestrian crossingsGive way to anyone still crossing after the signal for vehicles has changed to green. This advice applies to all crossings.
