Hi People,
I've looked through the pages in this section but cant find an exact discussion on what i'm looking for.
The scenario is basically this, I don't live in the UK but pop over there fairly often, I should be over again around April and would like to do a 1 or 2 day advance driving course, or basically learn how to handle a car better. I know 1 or 2 days isn't going to get me far but it's a start.

Could any of you point me in the right direction?, i'll be staying around Cambridge so anything around that area would do fine, i can travel as i will have a hired car and that brings me to the point that the place where i learn would have to have it's own cars as i cant really use a hired car.

Thanks again and merry xmas and safe driving to all

Are you looking for limit handling experience, or on-road training?

If it's the latter, there shouldn't be a problem with using a hired car.

You can certainly do a lot in one or two days. As the previous poster said, there is no reason not to use a hire car for advanced road driver training - and there is at least one well know racing coach who always uses hire cars for his training! If you want to work on limit handling skills, however, Car Limits offer to hire you their sports cars.

They and various other road and track trainers are linked and recommended in the Advanced Driving Links thread (though IAM and Rospa member training schemes are not well suited to fitting training into a couple of specific days).

Thanks Guys, i was looking mainly into handling a car at high speed, cornering and controlling skiding. Whatever comes along with it all the better.
I'll make sure i hire a good car the next time i'm over then, Just not sure should i have an accident if the insurance would cover me as i would not be on a public road.??

No, you would not have insurance cover. As previously mentioned, Car Limits sound suitable for your purpose. Racing driver Andy Walsh teaches high speed handling on an airfield, and makes a choice of his sports cars available for the training. Andy's North Weald, Esses, location is fairly convenient for your Cambridge base.

I hope you will not mind me mentioning that many of us on this forum think that training in high speed and limit handling is good fun, but that it contributes little to safe road driving. Safe swift on road progress comes primarily from enhancing observation, anticipation and planning skills.

BTW, I have no personal connection with Car Limits.

Hi James, I'd go with www.RideDrive.co.ukthumbup

E.g. something like this day could fit your bill nicely: www.ridedrive.co.uk/performance-car-hps03pm.htm

E.g. or better still this 2-day course: www.ridedrive.co.uk/performance-car-hpy05pm.htm

All the RideDrive courses can be done in a hire car. (Incidentally, I've nothing to do with the company, other than having done car and bike courses with them.)

Search through this Forum to see all the rave reviews for RideDrive ...
