Hi all,

Regular member (would not be too difficult for mods to work out) but do not wish to have the post on 'my' account. Unfortunately new accounts can't post in Speed, Plod and The Law so this is the closest unless someone fancies moving it...

I have a question about insurance:

Mr Moose's car was attacked with paint stripper in the Autumn most probably by a disgruntled female but we won't go there. Mr Moose called his insurance company and set the ball rolling to have them pay for it and set off getting local quotes for repair. At this point Mr Moose was offered cash for the car from someone who wasn't bothered about the damage and thus sold the car with damage. The insurance claim was then halted (insurance co. had done nothing other than log it and were awaiting my quotes) and that was that. Sadly Moose now has another thing on his insurance record - malicious damage. In hindsight this could have been avoided but at the time the offer from the mate was not there and Moose did not want to pay ££££'s for repair.

How should this be presented to an insurance company? It's now 'on file' so cannot be hidden or ignored.

- Malicious damage
- No NCB lost
- £0 'claim' value (for the purposes of getting quotes online)

Is this correct?

I think it means you probably have to get insurance quotes by phone. You haven't had an accident and you haven't made a claim, but the event almost certainly affects the "risk". There won't be anyway to give that info when applying online, hence the need to apply by phone. All you need to do is to describe the course of events as you have here.

Or have I missed some other complexity?
