I have been looking at this recently and was wondering if there is a group of IAM in the Oldham area, or an equivalent group.

How do i start, do i just start turning up at the meetings?

I'm pretty nervous to say the least with regards to someone scrutinizing my driving as like most whilst i consider myself pretty competant i have no doubt i've picked up some bad habits over the years.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

You can browse other IAM groups here:
http://www.iam.org.uk/iamgroupsdirectory/

You could turn up, or call one of the contacts on the web sites. They'll explain how the group works etc.

Don't be nervous. Whoever takes you out is bound to have experienced drivers worse than you, and you will be making him feel good if he sees that he can help you improve!

Ok cheers for that.

What are the weekly meetings like?

Having had a quick butchers i've found a local group that meets every Sunday literally 10 minutes away.

They appear to run a fixed length course (some groups allocate one Observer to you for the duration). You'll probably get a different Observer each week who will sit and watch your driving and give handy hints on how to get to test standard.
They start with a demonstration drive so you'll be able to see the sort of standard of driving required to pass the test (which isn't too onerous).
I'd give that contact person a call to chat about what happens.
