I'm sure this must have been posted before, but I couldn't find it, and think it's definitely worth posting again.

This is a great bit of road driving, and I'm told the Met used this as a training video at Hendon for some years after.

I'm fairly familiar with all of the route they took across London,(although its changed a bit since then) and even after watching it, I find it hard to believe it was possible.

Haven't seen that for a while. Excellent video, and I love those old Rover SD1's

He was missing the apex on some of the corners, but not sure if that was deliberate to try and get better sight. Great vid non the less, thanks for posting that, hadn't seen it in years.

I suspect he wasn't so much missing the apex as ignoring it.

Thanks for linking to this. I was trying to find out more about this liver run just yesterday after reading this story about the same car.

Great story !!

Can you imagine getting nicked by a copper who turns up in a Rover SD1 ?

It would be a bit of a 'Life on Mars' moment

I wonder if people would be so ready to move out of the way these days, if moving through a red light resulted in tripping a scamera.

This has been discussed on several occasions on here. Unfortunately there are a large number of selfish C**Ts who will refuse to move. Boils my piss.

Good video though.

Im guessing if you could give the time and date you could get it resolved. Similarly to how the police do it.

Incorrect. If you move out of the way for an emergency vehicle and in doing so commited an offence, you could still be prosecuted for said offence. Remember the driver of the emergency vehicle is trained to deal with any such situation and it is his responsibility to find a safe way round obstructions.

No, at least two incidents are on record. Both were prosecuted.

Why was the serial drunk driver reinstated by the programme maker? Bad decision.

The driver looked a little tense when he got out.

I know, but you shouldn't be.

Besides, I'd rather stand up in court and fight my case if I have to - knowing that I'd done the right thing and potentially saved a life.

This stuff about emergency drivers being pro's who can 'deal with any situation' is a little simplistic. Yes, they are pros. Yes, they can deal with MOST situations. However I'm sure it's concievable, even to the most closed minded person, that a situation could arise where the emergency vehicle is boxed in and could ONLY continue to make progress if you were to commit an 'offence' in the course of getting out of it's way.

(Here's an example for the hard of thinking: single carriageway, concrete dividing your lane from oncoming lane. You lane is narrow, you have a wide car. You're stuck at a red traffic light. No other vehicles except an emergency vehicle behind you. He can't go round due to the width restriction, you "can't" move forward because you've stopped at the stop line. Your only options are 1. Wait for the light to change, or 2. Carefully creep forward, over the line and out of the way. Option 2 _IS_ safe in my hypothetical example because you have great visibility in all directions and there are no other road users but you and the emergency vehicle.)

Fantastic video.

It is a bit strange to see such a lack of road signage, funny coloured road paint and traffic cameras around. I wish it was like that today. And how much was a gallon of petrol then (1986 I think)?

That is shocking. I would still like to go to court and fight it rather than just accepting I have commited such an awful crime.
