As the title...what do you suggest/think?

I think it's best to reverese in, and then be able to drive out for a safe clean exit.

Your views please?

Thanks,

Nick

Suppose it really depends on whether you're reversing out into a busy main road. I tend to go on to my drive forwards and reverse out,but often wait a couple of minutes for a space. Would love to have one of those turntables!

Yes!

A turntable at home would be brilliant!

Problem solved.

Reverse in drive out, especially at work. Slow entry, quick exit.

I prefer to drive in, because the space you reverse out into is bigger than the space you reverse into, so the whole process is quicker and safer that way.

Yes, that's my thought. Steady (professional) in...quick out (if needed)

That's genuinely interesting....I do just the opposite for the opposite reasons!

If you reverse in, you're reversing into a smaller and more confined space than when you're reversing out, and the smaller space is more likely to be difficult to see into when reversing in the dark etc, so my way has to be quicker and better all round, unless you genuinely want to make a sharp exit. smile

But adding in and out times together, driving in has to be much quicker because when you're reversing out you don't have to think about centralising the car in the parking space etc, and driving forwards into the space affords far more visibility than reversing in.

I usually reverse in and drive out. The space to reverse into a parking space may be smaller, but you get a good view of is as you pull past before reversing. The main hazards will be coming along the road. Having reversed in I get a much better view of the road when it is time to leave. Supermarket carparks are one exception, parking spaces back-to-back make it difficult to load stuff into the boot if there are cars parked next to you.

Do your manouvering with warm transmission, so reverse in and keep it simple for when you leave. You also have much better sight lines when leaving forwards.
(The exception being supermarkets and the like where you should park nose-in so you have access to the boot.)

Interesting, there seems to be a split opinion on this.

I was expecting most to say they reverse in, drive out.

An ex-girlfriend of mine used to say, always reverse into a pub car park ...

... because you may not be in a suitable state to reverse out afterwards!

(Not the most responsible person on earth it must be said. Hence the ex prefix.)

Reverse in except when I'm at the supermarket.

I reverse into parking spaces unless I have an overriding reason not to (i.e. access to the tailgate).

The fact that the parking space may be small doesn't deter me because I practice enough to be really good at it.

The key reason is observation. If you reverse into a space you get the chance to look into it first and see what's there. You can also see what's coming in both directions easily throughout the whole manouvre. If you drive in - that's OK - but you have to reverse out. Reversing out of a space usually start with you being blind.

How many times have you seen people at the supermarket start to reverse out and then have to slam on the anchors when they finally get vision? How many times have you had to stop because some idiot reverses out and has no idea you are there?

And that is why I reverse in and drive out. The ability to see oncoming traffic during the manouvre. No more, no less.
