Anyone done any of the courses run by CAT Driver Training up at Millbrook? If so, are they to be recommended? Looking for a course specifically targeted at circuit tuition not road tuition, and improving knowledge of car dynamics on track.

I have done one of their course. Highly recomended. I did a basic 'performance road and track' course last year. I am going back there in July for more advanced courses. The tuition is worked out with you on what you want to achieve from your machine and you will be given tips for practice during your general road driving to get to the standard you want to. The instruction is based on your enthusiasm and pace of learning and practical progress as the day goes by. There are various options to use their machines or your own.
Colin Hoad is the main man and Jo Hoad handles the office. You can discuss what you want to achieve with Jo to set up a program that works for you. Very flexible and friendly bunch of people.

you can give my reference: Bobby from nissansportz.

CAT is very good. One of the best if not the best course I have been on. Not cheap, but worth it. Give Jo a ring.

I did the Intermediate Track Day course there last year, and I have to say that it was one of the best courses I've ever done. Mainly because Colin Hoad is an *excellent* teacher. I've had plenty of 20 minute sessions on track days, but the problem with those is they aren't long enough, and they're delivered by racing drivers - and the characteristics that make you a good racing driver (ego & aggression) make you a very poor teacher. Colin describes in detail the point of an exercise, then you repeat it until you properly understand what the car is doing underneath you, with pauses for further explanation, on both sides.

It also helps that he has a very professional setup and that Millbrook is a bloody impressive place!

I fully intend to go back and do the Advanced Track Day course this year.

Thanks, Guys. That's really helped me in coming to a decision to do the course...just need to decide which one now!

Call them and talk to Jo hoad...she will explain the courses and how you can mix it up to what you want to achieve.

The course can cover whatever you like - all Colin needs to know is what kind of level to pitch at. Call them up for a chat - I spent a long time on the 'phone to Jo and swapped several emails with Colin before booking my course. He'll also have a chat with you before the day starts and ask you what you would like to concentrate on; for example, I already do "single input" steering, so we spent no time at all on that, but I wanted to work on my threshold braking, so we spent the time on that instead (until my brakes cried "Enough!").

What has been said so far is spot on, I done the track day course on the 10th of May this year. Before hand I carried out a bit of research (especially MLR as loads of people have done it in Evo Land) and every single review was brilliant.
It was a fantastic day, Colin is brilliant at teaching you everything you want to learn, and Jo made the day go extremely smoothly. I spoke to Colin before the course and explained what I had done to the car and what I wanted out of the day and he gave me loads of great advice on setting the car up before the fun began.
Definately recommended, it's a great day and you learn loads about your car and how to get the most out of it in a safe and controlled manner.

100mph around the 'bowl' is fun, especially when you are told to let go of the steering wheel!!
