Hi Guys and Girls,

I was having a snoop on the RoSPA website earlier and noticed that it is now possible to get a BTEC Diploma in driving.

I was just wondering if anyone has done this and what peoples thoughts on it are.

cheers

Hi All

The BTEC in Driving is mainly but not exclusively aimed at those that are new to driving. In order to pass one needs to have a full category B driving licence although from my understanding this does not have to be in a manual car so as not to discriminate against those that are not physically able to operate a manual car.

Rather than focus on car control, observation and traffic management skills like the current DSA and advanced driving tests, it is also about awareness of the shortcomings of relying on just these skills to keep one safe on the road.

Much of it is likely to reference the GDE (Goals for Driver Education) theoretical matrix that road safety professionals, including at least one with high level race driving success, see as a target for all driver education in the future.

A version of the matrix can be seen at http://injuryprevention.bmj.com/cgi/content-nw/ful...

Hope this helps

Best regards

Martin A

The only time I heard about this was with Bespoke Driving, they were trying to offer a BTEC in advanced driving instruction but it was a right old process involving lots of paperwork.

BTEC awards have been offered for quite a while as APL; Accreditation of Prior Learning. Only criteria I'm aware of is coughing up for the certificate. £90 for a Level 3 award (RoSPA pass or equivalent, merit if you got Gold) £130 for a Level 3 certificate (RoSPA Dip)or Level 3 diploma for £175 (RoSPA dip + evidence of having small business management experience).

Seems an expensive way to collect certificates to me.

I believe that Mark was trying to develope a HNC/HND course which looked quite interesting but as it's been dropped from the website I guess nothing came of it.

Another good way to improve your driving is to take a motorcycle test and ride a bike you will develope a hightened sense of awareness which will stay with you when driving a car

Good idea, you could also consider a PCV test, nothing hightens the senses like having 52 school kids lives in your hands.

Hi Guys

I have done the IAM car course, I have recently passed my bike test and will definitely be looking to do the IAM bike course.

I was just thinking about also joining RoSPA and doing this diploma thing. Its 5 days out of the office so could be worth it.

I am just thinking of which route to go down next, I dont really want to learn to drive a HGV or a bus (neither really appeal). Maybe I should look more toward track things.

Anyone any ideas?
