Im in loughborough and looking to the IAM 'skill for life' jobbie.
- And recomendations as to places to go?
- Local groups seam to be Leicester, Derby, and Burton.

Thinking of going with Leicester as the meet on a wednesday rather than a sunday which suits better, however they also seam to only meet monthly and i would rather go more often.

Had a quick look at their site - I think you're confusing the monthly Group meetings? This is the "social" side of Group life.

This is from their website - it sounds like you get allocated an Observer and can arrange to drive as it suits you.

"Most people can achieve "Test standard" after 6-8 observed runs (typically a fortnight apart), so you could be "Test ready" in 12-16 weeks. You will hear from a member of the Leicester group and be able to decide the best way for you to proceed to prepare for your test."

PS - They've got the Skill for Life price wrong, but to be fair it's hard to keep up with the changes.......

Could well be right. It was just that other sites tended to have 'when do we meet' as fortnightly and i the pages appeared to be copied from a given source rather than group specific.
- As you say, last time i looked the price was £85 (£75 for under 25 to). Apprently its going up to £139 at the end of the month however, and as ive just be accused of speeding, it seams due time!

Also, if you dont like the person your assigned to (hopefully not, but just incase) is is possable to change group? Also as im at university (loughborough) would i be able do sessions at the group local to my house (cheshire).

  • Edit, just got a call back from them. You where right, thats just the social meet (didnt even know there was such a thing) and i will be asigned an observer, of which they have two actually in loughborough, which i can go out with at times to suit. Shes sending me an introductary pack straight away via post. So should be able to look at that tomorrow! Spot on.

Yeah, looks ok.

Having paid up I have my book on advanced driving now, that came through to my home/billing address. Apprently my (second?) welcome pack and highway code are waiting for my back at Uni, and after the easterbreak she is going to assign me an instuctor.
- Although i have already been given then name of one of there instuctors who is in loughborough and proberbly going to be the person im assigned.

Cant wait really, hoping to learn something and get something back for my £99!
