Hope this is the right forum, I generally post on the wrong one.
Anyway, me friend asked me this one, don't want to enter a full debate, just if anyone knows the correct answer and point me to the reference, would appreciae it.
Situation, you have come to a stop, indicating to turn right across the oncoming traffic, regular two way traffic, do you:-
Stop with the front wheels straight, or
Stop with right lock already on.
Apparantly he read somewhere, that if you stop with the lock on, and get shunted, you may get pushed over to the oncoming vehicles, whereas if you have wheels straight, it may only push you forward. Must admit, never though about it before,

That's exactly it - keep the wheels pointed forward to avoid being shunted in to oncoming traffic.

Totally agree, wheels should be straight until you commence your manouver.
Re forums, I used to do the same - I think its car related in General Gassing, non-car related, P&P.

A traffic policeman who gave a talk at an IAM meeting suggested putting a slight left hand turn on the wheel, just to make really sure you don't get punted into oncoming traffic.
