It's not clever to take pleasure in the misfortune of others, but ...

Busy 6 lane dual carriageway, 70 limit but all three lanes travelling at about 55mph. I'm in lane 3, leaving a proper gap to the car in front. This clearly offends the car behind me because he spots a gap in the traffic in lane 2, undertakes and then cuts in front. I drop back again to reopen the gap and a minute later another car does the same. I should make clear here that I'm not hogging lane 3, I'm merely trying to leave a safe gap.

Anyway, a mile further on there's a sudden flurry of brake lights up ahead. I brake firmly, checking my mirror but fortunately I'm not being tailgated so I can utilise my space to slow to a halt five yards behind the now stationery cars ahead and yes! both the undertakers have shunted nose to tail with steam coming from the ruptured radiator of one of them.

As I say, one shouldn't take pleasure from others' misfortunes but it was hard not to smile a little as I drove past. Wonder if it will ever occur to them that they had an entirely avoidable accident.

Hope they learned their lesson (sometimes people actually do that)!

I would have actually done this as I drove past.

This sort of thing happened to me years ago. I was in a town centre somewhere in monster traffic going nowhere but someone decided they wanted to get ahead at the roundabout by trying to take the first exit left but being in lane 2. I got all hot under the collar and tried not to let them in whilst exchanging dirty looks but thanks to my girlfriend moaning at me I eventually backed off.

This person pushed past another couple of cars in front and we moved forward bit by bit (walking would have been much quicker). Anyway a few minutes later I hear a crunch and then the queue stops moving completely. Eventually we work our way around the obstacle and I find it's the pushy bh who's hit some other poor sod in a 1mph fight.

I drive past and put the passenger window down and laugh loudly and wave, pushy bh doesn't look pleased. All my aggression was lifted and I had a lovely day. My girlfriend wasn't impressed though redface.

I remember that incident as it taught me a lesson - don't get so wound up by these idiots as you'll end up making things much worse for yourself.

Oh yes.

Fond memories of the day someone forced their way in front of me at road works. He came out of the side road to my right and behind me. He came down the outside of several cars behind me on the wrong side of the road and cut into the yellow box that I was stopped for, the exit being obstructed.

The other side of the box, traffic again came to a halt with him just in front of me. In the exact position I would have been in, had he correctly given way.

To his left was another side turning, closed for resurfacing.

I looked left and saw a road roller. The type that consists of two big rollers, an engine, and a long handle with a hand throttle lever....

Being hotly pursued by Paddy.

The look on the drivers face was a picture. Boxed in, only there by virtue his bad driving, all he could do was sit and watch as the road roller scrunched into the side of his car.

So I politely thanked him for saving me from being in that position on the road. It’s a pity all drivers can’t be courteous when replying.
