Hi All,

I've been meaning to get some more training to improve my skills behind the wheel for ages.

I've done a ride drive day and will probably do another early next year.

However I'd like to get some help with stuff like left foot braking (been practising in the auto Audi for a while but dont do it often in the TVR) Heel + toe, track driving (which of course differs considerably from a ride-drive "road driving" day) and doing "silly stuff" like sliding around sideways.

I dont think the road is a place for a complete beginner to learn things like this, an open airfield or track seems like the place.

Thruxton do some own car driver training courses but thier noise limit is VERY low an I dont have a hope in hell of getting my TVR on track there.

Does anyone know of anywhere else that might run courses likes this?

Thanks

Dave

Horses for courses - I think the best thing to do is pick a range of people to do the bits of training - go to an expert rather than a 'jack of all trades' and you'll get the best of everything.

Left foot braking training from Pentti Arrikala http://www.leftfootbraking.com

Heel and Toe and track driving - I'd look at Don Palmer's Masterclass with Mark Hales rather than going to any of a number of ARDS instructors who tend to teach you to drive like them rather than working with what you've already got.

'Silly Stuff' - find a drift school somewhere.

Meanwhile buy the Carlimits (Andy Walsh) DVD 'Bending the Rules'. If you are a reader try Don Palmer's free online http://www.creativecarcontrol.co.uk/.

It sounds to me as though you should be going to either Andy at North Weald (Harlow) or Don at Bruntingthorpe. I think you should have airfield handling training under your belt before considering the Masterclass.

Andy and Don teach similar stuff and are both highly recommended. People I know who have been to both felt they got a little more out of their time with Don, but to offset that Don tends to charge a bit more and no doubt some would prefer Andy's more traditional teaching style to Don's NLP coaching style (if you don't know what that means please don't ask me!). Both operate on highly abrasive airfields, and their courses have a high additional cost in terms of tyres and wear and tear.

Please take a look at my website www.benelliottracing.com for airfield based training or track based training. I have had a lot of good feedback from customers who have done the days mentioned above as well.

Try www.briansvensonmotorsport.com. His website isn't finished but it's got his contact details on there. Sven's taught quite a few big name race/rally drivers over the years including the late, great Richard Burns. He can teach you everything you'll ever need to know about fast, safe driving, and to be honest his natural car control in any car Front, Rear or 4 wheel drive is absolutely astounding. To top it all off he's very friendly and unlike some other's who I shall not be naming, is not stuck up his own arse smile

I bought the Carlimits dvd (which is about all i can do in a lunchbreak) and didnt find it overly usefull for the money.
- Ive not managed it myself yet, but i think you just need to get out there with someone who knows there stuff and do it.
