Especially 'at speed' but normaly, you should be checking your mirror around every 8 seconds to be constantly aware of what is going on around you.
If you do this, maybe a 'mirror scan'(all 3 in my case) can be less frequent when in a straight line...but always when changing position...and leaving or entering on a slip road.
When passing an OFF slip road...look for the ON slip road that normally follows - have an 'over the shoulder' look to see any joining traffic...do a scan and adjust your position if you need to.
When joining an A or M road...an 'over the shoulder' look, as the mirrors do not tell you everything...and THINK BIKE...they are smaller and less visible to us, more fragile and often faster.
BOF.

Please tell me you're kidding... do you need a stopwatch and everything to make sure you're doing it enough, or can you rely on situational awareness and peripheral vision so that you check a mirror when there's a good reason to do so?StressedDave said:
