Warm weather black ice!
Discussion
Yesterday I was driving on a road I know well, entering a very fast open corner well within safe limits when suddenly I get huge understeer, I back off throttle and get grip when suddenly massive oversteer. Buttocks are by this time well clenched. I go down following straight slowing gradually without using brakes and go through the mental checklist. Tyres? Suspension? Diesel spill?
My attention is drawn to the farmyard detritus in the middle of the road and the strong cow smell. Neither is unusual (I live in rural Somerserset). However the stuff on road looks different.
Some way ahead I can see another car turn into a corner I have taken at 60, he is doing about 35 I'd guess. Suddenly his back end slides right out. He does well to recover and stops in safe place round corner. I could tell he thought it was his car so I pull over to point out to him that his car is fine, it is a huge slurry spill going about a mile down road where a farmer forgot to close a valve.
I grew up in the country and live in it and this is the worst I have experiences. So watch out for shiny black stuff in a line down road even in warm weather!
