I have recently spent weeks traing to be an advanced driver and found the course very informative, even though some techniques i think personally are questionable. I learnt alot about observation and car control but when it came to the test i found it an absolute joke. Yep i failed but i found the reasons more poltical than actually through bad car control or driving.
For example, I looked over my shoulder to join the motorway and i was taught to do this from my observers, yet i was totally interrogated by the examiner and his observer (which i was given no information about that this happens as well) as to why. This was the process my interview went through, not impressed.
Whilst i failed i think the training has taught me what i need to know and i just can't be bothered with the test, whats the actual point???????

That's how I ended up, I never took the test - but had the training then gradually stopped due to other commitments. I still know the basics, and hope that i'm a better driver because of it.
Unless you are a complete nobber, I would suggest that the IAM or RoSPA are the ones who have failed, by putting you to the test too early, or not giving you sufficient information!
For what it's worth - I packed it in before the test for feeling alienated due to my car control (not roadcraft) not being to their dictates.

Sorry you did not pass - why not slap in another application and learn from the comments you received?
I have had two 'delayed passes' in seven years Observing...both got through on retest...you can specify that no Supervisor is present if you feel the Examiner was under pressure.
I failed many years ago, but the training experience has stuck with me for the rest of my driving years...it IS a skill for life...even if you don't get the ticket first time round.
