Speed camera detectors
Discussion
Now that i`ve bought one i find i dont speed anymore.I know i never should anyway but inevitably i have done in the past.I find it sits in my peripheral vision at all times so i never have to look at my speedo to check my speed and for some unknown reason it has modified my driving.
To be honest i got said detector to stop me getting points on my licence but funny how something that stops you getting caught has this side effect.
I`m now a safer driver and no road rage etc- well apart from farties who drive along the middle lane of a motorway at 50mph but thats another matter.Rant over ,ready to be shouted at by all AIM`s

I'm not going to be shouting. It's good that you've settled into a style you're happy with, and that you are minimising the risk of getting done for speeding. Please bear in mind though that even if you avoid speeding there's still plenty of other things that can go wrong.
Best wishes all,
Dave.
I`m not a speed freak or anything- in fact been racer done trackdays had plenty of car tuition etc got the tea shirt so to speak..so am used to reading the road ahead for danger and unfortunately seeing the pathetic standard of driving in general.
If i want speed i go to the track if not just stick to driving safely.

I would almost say the opposite - it allows you to press on and gradually slow down for the cameras/mobile locations rather than slam on your brakes when you clock one as let's be honest although they are bright yellow, they can be hidden from view. By being warned say 300 metres before, it allows you to be better prepared. We're talking here fast A-roads, not towns.
I've got a snooper but to be honest I dont find it any help at all. I rarely notice it as I spend my time looking out of the Windscreen and not looking inside the car. It also flashes up at locations that have no camera and sometimes fails to flash as I am actually driving past a camera, so all in all not as good as the Mark 1 eyeball.

I think when it fails to beep going past a camera, it means that it's just an empty box. Not that I would test it.
Tom Tom sat nav works for me, audible and visual alerts. Trouble is since taking IAM tuition I've been keeping to the speed limits so the advance warning of cameras needs no further action. Surprising how many drivers slow down as they catch me up, then floor it once they have passed me.
Can't help thinking that if your driving technique results in other drivers flashing you, then you need to review how you drive.
