Skid Control Course
Discussion
I've got a vouchor for a Skid Control course (one day jobby) and there are various places I can use it at.
I did try and explain to the person that bought it for me that we were going sideways on purpose but still they thought it would make a good present.
Anyway, some of the venues have normal cars and a slippery track thers have the cages round the car which provokes the car to slide.
I've done a Skid course before with the local Police (long time ago) and I'm a dab hand at driving sideways!!!! Does anyone have an experiance of courses with the cage setup and if so is it like the real thing and are they any good?
Thanks in advance.

I attended a Skid Course in April and it was bascially run by a couple of old guys in a small shed with a 20 year old escort and sierra, for understeer and oversteer respectively.
Was a small area closed off by tyres, with little paths created for different excercises, e.g. braking, cornering etc.
The tyres were slicks and water and oil had been lad down. While speed rarely exceeded 20mph, we could still get it sideways and hold a slide.
My advice to you is make sure the one you choose is on a big airfield where you can get some real speed up before trying to control a skid, as this is more like the kind of situation you would come across in real life.

I did the one at Silverstone many years ago - with the frames around the car...
Ive also done it at Combe - much smaller area, and based on slipperly surface...
The major difference is with the frame, the instructor can instigate the skid when they want with the controls, whereas if your an experienced driver, the treated surface still has some progression (albeit, much less)..
