Roadcraft book - out of date?
Discussion
I recently bought a copy of the roadcraft book. I succumbed to looking at the 2nd hand ones on amazon. So mine is a 94 copy. Obviosuly it's not going to be wildly wrong or out of date, but can anyone tell me if I am going to miss anything substantial from not having the latest pressing?
Thanks

If I remember correctly, the System of Car control changed slightly ... The correct version is :
1. Information
2. Position
3. Speed
4. Gear
5. Accelerate
Not sure when it changed, but if your book shows this version then your ok.
If, not, then feel free to post questions about it. Note, that the Speed/Gear phases can overlap, (only when planned), and the Information phase runs all the way through.

Well, actually The System has not changed at all. It is still exactly the same as when it was first introduced in 1954. The 1994 [politically corrected; dumbed down] "new" roadcraft may use different words to describe The System but it is still "Position, Speed, Gear" whilst giving and receiving "Information" as appropriate.
Course, Mirror-Signal-Speed, Gear, Mirror-Signal, Horn, Accelerate is actually just MSM three times.
MSM-Course.
MSM-Speed.
Gear.
MSM-Accelerate.
Which, in turn is the same as,
I
n
f Position
o
r
m Speed
a
t
i Gear
o
n
As far as brake/gear overlap goes, The System has always "allowed" it where appropriate. The "new" roadcraft is simply a little more explicit in one diagram. The occasions where it is appropriate to use it are the same now as they have always been.
Well, that's how I see it anyway.
