Hi PHers - this seems the most appropriate forum for this question.

I would like to resume receiving professional help with my road driving.Having spent many hours (and much money) sitting in awe alongside Paul in the early 1990s (1990 - 1994 from memory), I had anticipated resuming the process - but no trace on the inter-web.

Anyone know what happened to him?

If Ripley is out of the equation, who is the current meister of expert tuition delivered in a manner that recognises a bumbling pupil learns best in a convivial and fun atmosphere (and is actually paying to be there)?

I believe Paul disappeared off to Canada. I can't comment about who I'd go to, as I work for him I'll leave it to others for their recommendations.

Go to either Hugh Noblett (www.cadence.co.uk) or Don Palmer (www.donpalmer.co.uk)

I can reccomend Hugh Noblett. He's a bit of a character, but is a true car enthusiast, very down to earth, really knows his stuff and has a wonderful way of 'coaching' you instead of just barking instructions at you.

I recently did a limit handling day with Don and he is fantastic! The best driving course I've been on by far!

Hugh is also very very good!! Both Hugh and Don are good friends and very experienced!

If you want to work towards entry to the HPC club, they are both gatekeepers and will train you to the level needed to attain your membership

There's nothing like being damned with faint praise, especially so early in the morning

Anyway db, why weren't you at Bedford on Saturday and why haven't I got a booking form for Masterclass yet?

I was in Bristol, aqua-planing down the M4 at the weekend. Shame I missed it (Bedford, not the M4). Liked the photos of the two SV chaps, not in an SV.

Been too busy winding up the people in SPL to see the MasterClass event advertised...

And for everyone else, StressedDave is a great instructor who got my driving up to entry level.

Try Steve Smith of Total Control (www.tc7.co.uk/index.html)
Steve was Paul's Chief Instructor for quite a while and now runs his own training business. I use him regularly and have recommended him widely. Always gets excellent feedback.

Paul sold off the business and emigrated to Canada several years ago.

Paul Ripley per blurb in one of his books...

Has

ADI - highest grade qualification

DIA Diploma in Driving Tuition

DIA Advanced Instructor Diploma

Grade A Cardington Special Driving Test

RoSPA Gold 9 I can match this

HPC course ( now have this too Anything the lads in family can do.. we girls do too )

Mercedes Benz Safety Course He ist following the family

IAM member ( quite a lot on the forum are

He also has CGLI 730 Teaching Certificate und a number od RoSPA driving tuition diplomas.. Ist one guy who KNOW what he talk about

He also have racing driver qualifications (und instructed this skill)

Funny - his book appear to be about COAST as well He co-write some pieces with Peter Amey.

His mate Peter Amey - Hendon Police Instructor did PGCE course at London Uni. und was Director of Studies at the Home Office Instructor Training Unit in Harrogate. Was Chief Instructor und Examiner for the police at one time.

Peter Amey ist the writer behind RoadCraft und his approach to driving ist the model .. ist C O A S T.

Peter Amey ist the instructor who apparently instructed two of my BiB cousins at Hendon when they were young Black Rats to be Lieber Cousins have passed on this expertise to us in numerous drive with them too.

They have one other pal Tom Topper who write book called "Very Advanced Driving" He debunk myth that "speed kills"

Teasing von again .. I do not think this ist book he want on book shelf Ist also not for gone either Ist not about the mysterious affair of the exploding jam doughnut either

He write in this book how 70 mph result in bunching.. (I think Herr Gorbach read this ist what he said in "neuen economy" aritcle justifying his 100 mph stretch

In his book - he explain in simplest terms - in words of one syllable - how police could be more "education led" und how they can shake off the negative image they have apparently acquired.

This book ist about how to become an "Advanced Thinker" so the blurb says..

Ist on my bookshelf.. ist a good read but ist a book for "grown ups - toppest shelf material" I fear some are too young ...

Shall hide under the little tank again

Why do so few instruction companies put prices on their web sites?

On a related note, the other service they need to offer is clocking your vehicle. I'd love to do some intensive training, but the mileage it puts on is outrageous

My dad got me reading that some years before I started driving - was a great column. I have seen him commenting in Evo magazine so hopefully we will see some more of him.
