IAM group differences.
Discussion
xiphias,
Best to join the Group nearest to you - if I have a choice of taking on someone 40 miles away, or someone local, who do you think I will choose?
Apart from travelling time, we are not paid for petrol, most IAM Observers will try to work locally so we can buy a new cardigan from time to time

We have quite a few around the Lancs area, and they are all different with ther own good points and bad ones.
Can you go along to a morning drive session and check it out perhaps, before signing up? I would certainly try, as I have known people turn their back on the IAM due to the behaviours of some groups.

With relation to the image of the IAM, is there any difference between different IAM groups? Or should I just look to be joining the most local one?
One of the main differences between groups is the choice of style between 'allocated to one observer' vs 'different observer each week' that each group makes. There are pros and cons to both methods; personally I prefer the latter (hence joining Nottingham Trent rather than Nottingham No1), as it gives the associate several different views, opinions and interpretations to make their own judgements from - rather than one observer trying to form the associate 'in their image'. The alternative view is that being allocated to one observer allows a relationship to build and improvement to be tracked and built upon session by session.
Either will definately improve your driving - you pays your £85 and you takes your choice!
