Attitude attitude attitude. If you think there is osmethign to be gained from more knowledge and you are flexible enough, then I would say you are well on your way.
Couldn't agree more. If you are willing to listen and "have a go" at what you're shown you should have no problem at all.
There are a lot of misconceptions about the IAM and RoSPA..as Don says, if you feel that you could benefit from a course, you are making progress.
It is relatively easy for an Observer to identify your bad habits in the first drive or two and to give you some pointers on how to correct them - maybe more importantly, to give you a clear understanding why driving to the System will make you a safer and more relaxed driver...and leave it to you to notice this before the next Observed drive.
If you are thinking about it, try this...name out loud every road sign that you see, including paint on the roads and anything that might make you alter course or speed...kid on pavement...parked car nearside ahead...School sign (where is the school? Have you passed it yet?) etc...
Read the road like a newspaper, most of the clues are there if you are looking for them.
BOF.
