Anyone here a member? All I hear is that they have a massive backlog and it really puts me off. I also need an observer who appreciates the type of car I'm in and won't get beardy about heal an toe etc. Anyone able to help?

Thanks,

Dan

Both the central London group and the North East London group have observers who are members of HPC and aren't at all beardy... don't know about the backlog issue though.

Dan: A lot of the groups have a backlog I fear - not enough volunteer Observers and a very popular course!

Why not get your name down and wait?

You could also check out the local RoADA groups and see if any of them have a shorter waiting list. The "course" is *identical*.

My group wasn't put off by the fact I drove a performance car. In fact - quite the opposite!

I'm from London and was accosted at the Brands Hatch PCGB festival by someone from the IAM stand and filled in a form registering interest. Have not heard anything back from them as yet though.

You will do eventually, I'm sure.

Dan,

As posted elsewhere on the Forum, there are many misconceptions about the IAM - flatcaps, wheel shufflers etc.

I am currently Observing a driver who has a Range Rover for daily use, and a Bentley - he uses the Range Rover to tow his Morgan to track events every weekend.

In my Group we have a couple of retired Class 1 Police who could stick your car up your arse without touching the sides...

Go for it!

BOF.

I have just joined the SE London Group and they have approx 4-6 months waiting list.

Still its worth waiting for.

Very much looking forward to my first observed drive.

Took the driving instructors test last year but failed

"speeding" who would've guessed

I believe they have their monthly meeting tomorrow, hoping to get along

Dan, I am in NW London and Chilterns Group and been told the same. How long did it take until you got observed?

I didn't bother. I'm just paying for training with Cadence etc.

It'd be good if they priorotised those who committed to become an observer once they passed, to help their backlog.

It's a good idea, but you couldn't force people to become an Observer once they'd passed, think that's why they don't do it. I passed my test in November last year (having waited 4-5 months) and started my observer training weekend before last. I'm with the SE Group (Bromley). Actually, were you there a couple of weekends ago 200sx (a 200sx certainly was ) - How are you finding it?

Anyway, with regard to the wait, I would say it's worth it. It's a really worthwhile course.
