Well someone had to start the first thread.

Edit: Besides, the Gassing Station was getting confused and showing pages 1, 2 and 3 out of 0.

Hi, Jon. Well I've found it. I'll put it in my Favourites. Do we have a Moderator, yet? I'm sure discussions will get heated about push-pull steering and brake/gear overlap!

I suspect there will be a lot a question and answer type discussions in here.

One thing that would be useful would be to know a bit about what quals those answering have...I'll pop something on my profile. Or maybe we should sound off on a thread?

I think a specific thread would be good - would give a good idea of what numbers there are on here.

plus, secondary to that, it might help folks where there are fellow PHers local to them, etc, etc ....

Great idea to start this section, I believe Driver Training ( hate the term "Advanced Driving" ) should be encouraged, and made very public. I've enjoyed quite a bit of training with a number of instructors, and found most of it to be very useful. I'm a director of a small company ( 25ish people ) and put everyone through wet grip and road craft training, even if they don't drive for business.
I am a member of an "advanced driving orginisation", but hate the arrogance, and elitism, that I see within it.

Lets hope this becomes a forum for lively debate !

Regards.

Which one?

The other thing I will say is that the IAM (and RoSPA RoADA) do seem to vary a bit by group.

Agreed - but how to do it?

Those interested in improving their driving standards may have already taken part in some form of post driving test training, it's those who consider driving to be a perpetual right and have no interest in driving other than it being a method of getting from A to B that should be encouraged to participate in driver training (maybe by way of insurance incentives). IMO, driver training would improve road safety far more than some other so-called safety measures such as cameras and speed humps, and would be paid-for by the driver, so no drain on the tax-payer!

Personally, I'd be in favour of regular mandatory assessment (say, every 5 years) followed by further training within 6 months for those failing to 'make the grade'.
Should they fail to meet the standards a second time, then they would have their license withdrawn until they have successfully re-taken the test.

However, I don't see any politician supporting that suggestion though!
