Insurance discounts for AD qualifications for a young driver
Discussion
My Goddaughter is 17 and saving up for her first car. I’d like to sponsor AD training that will make her a safer better driver, but also get a discount on her insurance, which will be very expensive for the next few years.
Which companies offer discounts and which qualifications are eligible please? I’m guessing that
Pass Plus
IAM
ROADAR/ROSPA
will be the most well known.

Hi Brisel,
Unfortunately I sadly don't think insurance will be lowered as a result of passing the course. I'm 23 and have a Masters distinction and ROSPa Gold. I only got £5 off my insurance and that was at a stretch since they didn't recognise it as much as pass plus.
So, I'd genuinely say for better premiums, pass plus. But to prepare her for the roads, AD all day everyday.
I kind of explain more in my video here.

Best of luck whatever you decide, this is just my two cents!

As Amy says; when I got my IAM pass (later upgraded to a First with another test), there was barely any insurance discount at all.Unfortunately I sadly don't think insurance will be lowered as a result of passing the course. The saving comes from all the incidents you don’t have!

It’s disappointing that insurers don’t understand AD training and the impact it has on claim rates. I got 5% off with Aviva after passing my IAM in 2008 but I was 30 by then & the premiums were coming down anyway. Interestingly, NFU Mutual ignore anything over 3 years ago as they claim that drivers have forgotten by then…
The IAM scheme (Cornhill?) came in for a good slating at my IAM group AGM for being uncompetitive vs other insurers.
