How would people approach the following.

I am about to enter a roundabout - but I can see there is a lot of congestion from a queue of cars from the next exit /

This means if I enter I will then also be blocking the roundabout.

I I hold back, then I may never have a chance to get onto the roundabout due to the level of congestion.

Below is a picture of the roundabout. I am entering at the yellow arrow and leaving at the orange arrow. You can see the queue of the traffic

Although it's not marked as a two lane roundabout, the road is wide enough that a car can pass another car. Your exact position would depend on where the queues are.

Tricky situation to find yourself in. I tend to drive straight at the roundabout and turn left so that my tail end is tucked as tightly to the roundabout as I can, in order to leave space for others to get past.

Back in the day, I am sure I remember being taught that where the rule of the road is that priority was given to cars entering the roundabout (as in France at that time) roundabouts were more likely to become blocked. However, where cars entering the roundabout have to give way to vehicles already on the roundabout, traffic keeps flowing better.

So, in this situation, I enter when I can. However, once on the roundabout, I do what I can to make space for other drivers. Otherwise, you'll be there all day holding up those behind you.
