coming home last night , one empty bus lane and a stream of cars in the other lane , blue lights come up in the distance so i watch whats going to happen , assuming the ambulance will take the empty bus lane , no it waited for all the cars to move over into the bus lane

should it not have taken the bus lane ? all the cars have to risk a ticket for using the bus lane ?

Guessing overtaking on the right affords more options, especially when negotiating junctions, etc?

Because it was end of shift and not an emergency - would have got in trouble.

Ambulance station near me does this all the time when it's home time.

Ambulance goes up bus lane passing cars on the left, dozy driver hears sirens, doesn't look, pulls into bus lane, causes accident, no ambulance for emergency, new ambulance required for original job and potentially another for crash occupants.
I would have done exactly the same , safer and won't get blocked at lights by dozy drivers ahead.

Largechris How do you know the crews do this?

fair point ..yet all the drivers face the misery of a ticket for doing the right thing

It's either that or a remarkable number of people needing an ambulance at the same time every night in the same place. While it's quiet the rest of the day

Have you considered that a shift change is required. Next crew can't go out without an ambulance!
