Men and overtaking

Serious question.
How many men can accept being overtaken? Does it matter if the overtaker is male or female, younger or older, driving a 'better' or 'inferior' car?
I have had several instances when I have overtaken someone and their reaction from the 'overtake' was to accelerate or flash headlights / wave arms / sound horn.
I'm female, driving a VW Golf (and on occasions a Porsche 914). I don't think I'm pushy or cheeky, just driving reasonably carefully but 'not slow'.
I'm interested - is being overtaken something that most men can't accept?

People in general seem to take offence to overtaking now, especially the 40 everywhere club. I don't really get overtaken as I can keep up with national speed limits but last time I did I had a good laugh with my passenger as a van absolutely flew past on a good road. Has absolutely no affect on you so its a mystery why people make such a fuss.

I drive reasonably sporty cars and I not in competition on a public road. I am quite happy to pull over if something quicker comes up in my mirrors.
It is very frustrating when someone else will not pull over ahead of me , no doubt, but not going to flash lights,/beep or the like. In Canada where I live undertaking is legal, and if someone does not pull over after a while I simply indicate and undertake at a civilized speed, not some tire-squealing nonsense.

Slightly off topic but have I seen your car at the ring? Just looked at your pics and I'm sure it was your car. I overtook someone in the Pennines last year, me in a Westfield him in some sort of old persons car (you know 1litre,10 years old, gets washed every Sunday whether it needs it or not, goes everywhere at 40mph).
National speed limit, open straight road, no other vehicles in sight.
He went absolutely mental, horn, flashing lights, gesticulating.
Luckily I only saw him for the next couple of seconds as he kept to his 40mph

I do most of my driving on country roads so I do a lot of overtaking, the Zoe is not particularly quick so people speeding up when being overtaken is an issue. Lots of people do it but young women seem to be particularly bad so it is definitely not just a man thing.
I always remember a young woman getting particularly irate and waving her apple at me when I overtook her perfectly safely in my Fiat Multipla.
I have no problem with people overtaking me as long as they don’t slow down and hold me up afterwards.

You did indeed...I had an M6 V10, 997.1RS,997.2RS,991.1RS and a Panamera ST Turbo there at various times there, some on Canadian plates and some on Euro delivery plates...It just does not feel right for me not to have the fun of a few weeks in Germany, Ring, Spa and so on. If we ever get out of the mess we're in now I will hopefully do a 992RS, but who knows?....
Overtaking is hard in my RX8 as it makes a lot of induction noise so people can hear you but doesn't have much torque and needs it neck rung to make progress.
Used to be a lot easier when the average person drove a petrol car especially if a manual as you were usually past them by the time they woke up took offence and put it their foot down.
Nowadays turbo's in most cars combined with automatics means they can react a lot quicker, in the future it will be even harder when the average car becomes an EV.
People generally can't match my WRX for power so overtaking in that is a lot more of a pleasurable experience as they don't realise before your well ahead of them.
Oddest experience recently was driving a shopping spec Toyota and overtaking an old couple in a standard mini who took offence and matched me well into 3 figures before I dropped back, at the next set of lights I pulled ahead then went really slow for the next few hundred meters just to reenforce the point expecting them to overtake but they never did.

Very happy to be overtaken, either driving my 1.2 Polo or the work van, if i drove a faster vehicle and wasn't pushing on it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I don't get upset at being overtaken. It probably happens to me more often than most PHers as it's very rare for me to be going above the posted speed limit.
I actually enjoy a "good" overtake (ie safe, smooth, fast AF and quickly back on the right side of the road). It's mildly irritating/annoying seeing somebody carrying out a dick overtake (where somebody else has had to take avoiding action because of the overtakers incompetence/arrogance) but flashing headlights/hand gestures is a complete waste of energy. Suggesting to a bloke that his driving was less than perfect is the same as telling him he's got a small todger
