The High Performance Course is running a Young Drivers’ Day on Saturday 25th July 2020.
This is open to those aged 26 years or less and who hold a full driver’s licence.
Info on their website: http://www.high-performance-course.com/index.php?o...

There may be some flexibility if just over 26 etc. - always worth asking - but aiming the event at younger drivers...

There are a number of people on here who have attended over the years and it is generally considered to be an excellent day - focusing on overtaking and cornering, two skills which are often neglected... and there are usually bacon rolls - bargain all in for the cost...

If interested, hop over to the High Performance Course website (link above) and register...

I would have thought it more logical to discriminate on basis of time-since-passed than on calendar age.

Not sure I would call it discrimination wink after all - everyone is sub 26 in age at some point, so no-one is discriminated against!
The High Performance Course is available to anyone - it runs on a 1:1 basis with the course managers. As it is 1:1 and over several days, it is not cheap (though extremely good value for money) - therefore the Young Driver's Day gives access and a taster to those who are more likely to be financially less able to access the full course.

FTFY.

I do think they're on dodgy ground here with regards discrimination; age is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act, whereas driving experience is not yes

Would love to do this but I'm too old frown Not going to lose any sleep over it though.

Age is a protected characteristic - but there are lots of situations which 'discriminate' on age quite legally - age to drink / marry / vote / go to school / get your pension / etc. It is not an issue having sports teams structured by age / etc.

The question is simply whether using age is an appropriate decision in filtering who has access to something - e.g. restricting chocolate bars to those over 40 might be discriminatory - but a driving day to give skills to young drivers is unlikely to be - especially when it is known that younger drivers tend to be higher risk on the road / etc. and that risk is not simply a factor of years of driving - so a 40 year old who has just passed their test is statistically a lower risk than an 18 year old who has just passed.

So, I suspect that this is simply a red-herring smile anyone over 26 is of course welcome to contact the organisers / the course to talk about their thoughts / how they can access training...

Highly recommended and I learnt a huge amount when I attended, all those years ago! wink

If you're also 'relatively' close to the age 'limit' you could ask nicely as see what the response is.....

The YDD 2020 has been cancelled - the intention is to run it next at the same time in 2021.

Attended years ago and it was fantastic. They recommended I take the entry course and 10 years later I still haven't been able to spare the money!
