If your car starts sliding in the snow...hit the brakes hard!
The friction from the brakes will cause the snow to melt allowing you to safely stop.
Is this really what social media was designed for?
what friction? The friction from the brakes will cause the snow to melt allowing you to safely stop.

if the snow is below your tyres, then heat in the brakes area won't be melting that snow
if you have snow as high as your brakes, you are probably stuck anyway - and therefore not sliding
if you are sliding there is no friction between tyre and road, so no heat generated there either
yes, social media is for the inane comment - perfectly suited

I wonder where ABS would feature in all of this??

What does happen if you aquaplane with your cruise on? I've never tried it as I don't use cruise control if its that wet.
Bert.
PS not expecting to fly though
I would be fairly confident that any modern car would kick off the CC if the traction control has to intervene. But then maybe I'm putting too much trust in the manufacturers.Bert.
PS not expecting to fly though
But maybe it's too late by then anyway

My petrol Vectra switched off the cruise when the TC cut in, back in the dying years of the last century!
On my 20 year old American pick up the cruise control is fairly basic, with the speed controlled by the throttle input through the pcm & the speed sensor on the rear differential. A limited slip diff, uphill bend plus cruise control engaged in the wet makes for a great power slide, did I mention towing a caravan too? Modern stuff tends to have much better/safer electronics that compare the difference between each wheel speed & the TC will always overide the cruise control.
Back on topic I remember as a young boy being told that lorries didn't skid on snow and ice as the wheels locking up would melt it, social media hadn't been invented then so it must be an old wives tale, told through gritted teeth. ........
