IAM course as a restricted driver?
Discussion
I only recently passed my driving test ( 6 months ago) and am interested in doing an advanced driving course after reading Reg Locals book and Roadcraft. However, as a restricted driver I am legally limited to 45mph, though I ignore the restriction and mostly stick to the posted speed limits. New drivers are limited for one year after passing the test in N.Ireland so I don't want to wait for 6 months before starting the course as I commute over 2000miles a month. Is it feasible to complete the course with the R-Plates or will IAM expect me to observe the restriction?
You must have access to a road legal vehicle and have a full a current driving licence. Unfortunately, restricted drivers in Northern Ireland cannot take the test due to the R Plate system. This is because the test will involve unrestricted roads such as motorways, where you may be required to exceed 45mph. The group is happy to start your training as you come to the end of your R Plate restriction. Give us a call to find out more.

Unfortunate, but understandable.
Just give it a few months - I think 1 to 2 years after passing your test is the ideal time to take an advanced course anyway.
Good luck!
