Today I was turning left at a very large 4 exit roundabout. There are 2 lanes joining and 2 lanes leaving each exit.

I waited for my immediate right to be clear, and saw a cyclist and a car in the lane closest to the island (I guess the outside lane? sure what is considered inside and outside lane on a roundabout?) I assumed both were leaving the roundabout in that lane.

I proceeded and the cyclist suddenly started yelling at me. I slowed right down and they moved in front too me into my lane.

I know I did wrong, I should have anticipated the cyclist leaving in left most lane. But at that time, I was thinking 'treat them like any other vehicle on a roundabout' and assumed they would exit in the lane they had been cycling in originally.

Now I know, and should have anyway, to never assume anything with cyclists at roundabouts. But should I still consider doing this manoeuvre with other cars in the same scenario? Car in lane closest to island, me turning left, and me proceed due to the 2 exit lanes?

TIA

Cyclist was probably turning right from his perspective so if you think about it, he would be in that lane. Just give way if unsure really.

Thanks but I know that. I am talking about roundabouts with more than one exit lane.

I imagine the cyclist had moved into that lane (correctly) as he passed several exits but then wanted to leave the roundabout in the left hand lane to avoid being dangerously trapped on the outside by faster traffic entering the roundabout on the left (like you).
Best to assume that any traffic already on the roundabout might change lane at any time as they still have priority over you even if they seem to be in a different lane.
