So its snowing: Stay in or get some practice?
Discussion
My local AD group has, in think understandably under the circumstances, cancelled their meeting this weekend due to the forecast of snow. Now, whilst I would not undertake an unnecessary drive across the Snake Pass or through the Highlands in such weather, I wonder what the assembled think of actually holding a meeting in such circumstances, for the experience of driving in such condition? Agreed such a drive could be classed as unnecessary, but gaining such experience will prove invaluable when you HAVE to drive in snow. Your thoughts?

If I wanted to gain experience driving in snow, I think I'd wait until a naturally quieter time of day - late evening perhaps - and go out then, rather than adding to weight of traffic at busier times.i cancelled my RoSPA associate drive due to the snow, not because of what he may have done but due to the obvious risk created by other drivers, many who show zero skill in these conditions and are a menace to other road users. I did go out alone though to check out the effectiveness of the winter tyres on my 520d, been fitting them since the bad winter of 2010 and never had any snow since to try the tyres out - as expected they were very impressive in all respects.

I love driving in snow/ice but its clear that many people fear it and don't know how to deal with it. I don't blame them in any way for that but I think its useful to drive in it and remind yourself how you need to adapt and control your car. It's not something to be feared or avoided but to be treated with respect and the relevant skills learnt. An AD group avoiding it? Tssssk. A missed opportunity.
