Can someone please advise me how to reverse into my drive the right way? My road is a side street but with lots of annoying traffic. If I want to reverse in to the left I obviously have to swing out to the right before reversing. How do I signal this? As soon as I try and slow down cars either try and pass me on the left or the right

Flick right, engage handbrake, swing rear into line with drive, engage reverse smile

Seriously, I would stop as normal and wait for a clear road, then complete manoeuvre.

It it really so tight you need to swing out so far you leave enough space on the left for a car to pass ?

I have this reversing through an arch into my mothers.

Indicate left, slow and just before I swing right, bang the hazards on. Once the nose is to the right, stop, and fix the b#gger behind with a Paddington stare to try and stop them whizzing past.

Reverse gently into what looks like a brick wall from their point of view and vanish.

Pull over to the left before you reach your drive, and wait for a clear moment to pull forward into the space you need to reverse. Wait for a pause in the traffic large enough that you can pull out to the right, and begin the reversing before more traffic gets too close.

Also use liberal application of eye contact with other road users.

Slow down early, almost to a stop before your entrance, with left indicator, but positioned well to the right. Hopefully the left indicator discourages passing on the left, the speed and indicator show what you need to do, and the position discourages passing on the right.

Well done for backing in rather than backing out which would be more dangerous. If you have a companion take advantage by asking them to direct traffic!

You could also use the old fashioned arm signal (Arm out of window doing "slow down motion") this will also reenforce to other road users in front as well as behind that you are doing something "different" and may allow you the space?

Well, yes - but I suspect that most road users would slow down to watch out of curiosity, rather than knowing what the arm signal actually meant!
