How many IAM "firsts" are given out?

Unlike RosPA the IAM test is just pass or fail. However I was told that if you got a "1" in all the test categories then there was some recognition of that. Anyone know what percentage of people pass with perfect scores?

To obtain a F1rst it is not necessary to obtain all 1s. A number (3?) of 2s is also allowed. A commentary must also be given.

My group has around 25% passes with a F1rst.

Is it different for the bike test? (Of course no commentary possible!) Mmmm. I didn't get a F1rst but thought I didn't get more than three 2s. Unfortunately it seems I've deleted the email with the test result by mistake so can't check it.

There's also some categories that you must score a 1 in to be able to gain a F1rst - I know legality is one of them but can't remember the others

A lot depends on teh examiner on the day I think...

When the first first came out they back-dated it for some people (about 6 months?) but with stricter rules. I think it had to be a perfect run to get a backdated first... I was very pleased to get my first certificate about 3 months after passing my test

Your group can use their access to the IAM database (DTE) to download a copy of your test marking sheet.

I thought you had to get all 1s to achieve a F1RST, but the Examiner had the discretion to award a F1RST if you dropped to a 2 in one or two other categories. Plus some other requirements (fully legal, commentary for car drivers). However, there's probably a more accurate definition somewhere on the IAM webstite.

If you didn't get all 1s, then I don't think you can get a F1RST unless the Examiner chooses to recommend you. You could have got nearly all 1s, but not quite been recommended for a F1RST. In any case, nothing stops you for going for a F1RST via a Member's Assessment.

How does one access the F1RST register?

Having logged on as a member the only register access that I can find is for Masters. But, when I click on it I get... "404 - File or directory not found."

Does anyone know how to access either of these registers?

Thanks for that. When I've got a moment I'll work out how to access it via my member's logged on page.

The date alongside each name is that particular member's annual membership renewal date. It has nothing to do with their F1RST status.

There have been extensive discussions on another forum, as well as the IAM's now "dark" members' forum, about the inability of the IAM to communicate effectively. Now, on the website, we have yet another example:

F1RST Register;
Adam Dixon;
Vehicle: car
Expires: 01/01/17.

Anyone reading this might think it meant that Mr Dixon's F1RST status expires on the 1st January 2017. No, it doesn't. Unless, that is, he fails to renew his 2017 membership. That date is just the individual's annual membership renewal date. This is yet another example of a lack of thought, or should that be lack of intelligence, on the part IAM personnel when it comes to communication.

For those who don't have a F1RST in logical website-search thought processing, like me for example, here's how to find the F1RST and Masters registers:

From the myriad of options presented to you:

On the Home page click on "About"
On the "About" page click on "Our Members"
On the "Our Members" page click on Our F1RST Register - "Find Out More"
... or similar for the Masters' Register.

Now, I suppose all of this would be perfectly intuitive to my 4 year old grandson, but not to me I'm afraid. But, exactly how many 4 year old IAM members are there?
