Driving Day - near Brecon, Wales - Sat 30 August 2014
Discussion
I'll be organising another of the joint PH / ADUK Driving Days, this time based near Brecon on Saturday the 30th of August. It's got access to some great roads, and even on a Summer Saturday the quiet routes we use shouldn't be too busy.
We'll be based at a café that will be open for breakfast, and we can return to for lunch. Participants will be grouped into twos or threes and then take turns to each drive their own car over a choice of routes, ranging from 40 to 80 minutes for each driver. After everyone in the group has driven, they retire to base for discussion and refreshment.
There's no requirement or expectation to drive other vehicles, or let other people drive yours. It also doesn't matter what your car is - the point is the driving, not the vehicle. Previous experience of Advanced Driving isn't required either, just a willingness to think about what you're doing in the car and talk about it. As organiser, I'll be attempting to match up groups of drivers with varying experience so that everybody gets to learn something, and we all have an enjoyable time.
My previous attempts to mobilise the Advanced Driving forum to actually get out and drive have met with somewhat mixed success. I'm surprised at this, as I've been attending these kind of events for over 8 years now and really can't overstate how much they've changed how I drive, and think about driving. i truly believe that anyone who's serious about improving their driving has to get out and drive with other people. Come on PH!
I can't guarantee the weather, but the roads will hopefully look like this:

Looks familiar...
Aha - same road, but you had the more typical weather. That stretch always seems to have fewer sheep too, which is helpful. To expand on my earlier comment, my colleague in the North informs me that he hopes to run something near Chester later in the year. I'll update as soon as I have details.
