Was looking at becoming a lorry driver.
If I'm right in thinking the age got lowered from 21 for a artic?

How much would I be expecting to pay for everything included?

Would use a local company.

Mdfiddies. I think.

You'd probably get more info if this was re-posted in the commercial break section but I'll try and help.

First I believe there is a young drivers scheme which allows you to start training at 18. I've no idea how easy it is to get on one of these but generally 21 is the age at which you can apply for a LGV licence.

I've no idea on costs today. When I passed my class 1 (C+E now) in 1995 it cost me £1000. I would imagine it would be at least 3 times that now and to gain a licence for artics you have to pass a rigid test first. It won't be cheap! You will also be required to take a drivers CPC course as well.

It's also a very hard industry to get in to once you've got your qualification, especially if you're young with no experience. However don't be put off because there are some well paid jobs out there and a shortage of drivers.

Go for it!

Good luck.

Young driver scheme went bye bye in Sept 2009 when the driver cpc was introduced and the age for driving any LGV went down to age 18

To go from B to C+E you will need £3k handy in case of the odd retest

I suggest a trip to the trucknetuk site newbies forum and read the stickies near the top of that forum
