Hi - does anyone have any recommendations for advanced driver training, ideally along the lines of the HPC, but in or close to Yorkshire.
I'd like to improve my skills but prefer not to travel too far, I'm actually just north of Leeds.
Any positive experiences - or something to avoid?

Try asking www.RideDrive.co.uk

However, HPC is utterly brilliant. HPC is easily worth the investment in time, money and travel, IME.

Thanks, I'll have a look at both ridedrive and uptospeed.

If I'm being critical, then I do have to say, that after watching the video of the drive Ribblehead to Hawes that there's was not a lot of really useful instruction being given, all seemed to be concerned with looking up to see where the road went. Now that's fair enough, but where were the comments on use of gears, brakes etc.
Or am I being unfair, commenting on a 18 minute excerpt from a much longer session?

No idea who the people in the car are, but form the couple of minutes or so I watched I guess the guy receiving instruction needed some help on keeping his vision up, so pretty basic roadcraft. My experience of "advanced" driver training (HPC) is that you work through a list of areas where your driving could be improved in an order of priority. The video posted just seems to me to be a snapshot of that process for whomever it is receiving the training.

One of my favourite roads cloud9

We are bound to have another club drive along there at some point Graham. One of our members is a ride drive instructor and ex traffic police. They do seem to come highly recommended and have considered doing one myself.

Mark.

Hi Mark

Yes it's one of my favourite roads despite it being the scene of my closest brush with death, some 30 years ago when going far too fast on a Kawasaki GPZ 1100. Left the road and went straight up a bank, fortunately nothing to hit so could ride back down and carry on!
We were stupid in those days.

Club run up there would be very good

I was quite impressed by the bit of video which I watched. Where to look is high on the agenda at the highest level of advanced driving. However, I thought this teaching commentary was also helping with overtaking, positioning, cornering and probably other stuff besides. If I was looking for a professional in that area, I would give this chap a try. But of course (as a long term HPCer) if you can get yourself to Banbury I would recommend an HPC gatekeeper.

Have you already tried IAM/RoSPA groups? I found the training they offer to be unbeatable at the price.

Try your local RoSPA group. You are examined by class one Police drivers, and if you don't think that guys trained to commentate at 150MPH are good enough to examine you then you might want to join McLaren or Ferrari as a test driver.

Why do I get a sense of arrogance in every contribution you make? The op wants to improve his driving not have some cop tell him what he is not doing the cops way; & you and I know some of them cops are not nearly as good as those how think the sun shines out of their arses really are wink

Welcome to PH btw byebye
