How should you react if someone is tailgating me?
Discussion
Thanks for your replies.
The general consensus so far seems to be that it's best to just pull over, so that is what I will try and do in future - albeit I must admit Captains response is the most tempting :P
What I used to do was to just speed up, overtake a few cars (assuming it was safe to do so! - I didn't go mental)and I'd loose them. I don't want to make a habit of breaking the speed limit though.

Pull over and let them past, every time. Not worth the accident or the risk you have inadvertently just found the local nutter/psychopath/anger management class failure etc.
This. What's fking annoying, though, is the one who isn't tailgating because they want to go faster.
There are two sort of tailgaters.
Type 1: Aggressive idiot who wishes to go faster and isn't brave or smart enough to overtake conventionally.
Type 2: Idiot who thinks that rights up the arse of the car in front is the proper place to position their car.
Type 2 doesn't even want to overtake. Hence, very often, if you pull over they simply drive in front of you at a slow speed!
In either case the right course of action is to be somewhere they aren't.
Let him go past.
1 you've no idea why he's in a rush. So just let him go
2 when you come round a corner to find a broken down tractor in the road would you rather have the tailgater in front of you or behind you
3 if you're looking in your mirror getting distracted, you're getting distracted.
