Every time I leave work I navigate a busy junction turning right. When someone on the right lets me out I usually thank them and hold my position so as not to block the lane when nobody coming from my left wants to let me join. Am I doing this right? It gets mixed reactions...

I think when someone lets you out they are expecting you to move out. They can see the traffic coming the other way so they know the situation. The only time I would stay put is if it's a yellow box junction.

I usually move out, I find drivers from the left more willing to let you out if they see a car poking out in the next lane.

There's a difference between inviting you to move and just not blocking a junction to allow traffic in (especially) and out. I'd make my call based on probability of being able to move before the traffic moved on and thus I stopped the car in question making progress.

This is the junction. I normally leave during rush hour so it looks a bit different

I would not pull out and risk blocking this junction as there is a likelihood of traffic appearing from the left and side road just off it.

Seems a higher chance of being stuck there.

Would you have priority to pull away if you are blocking the junction and a car appears turning left from the side road opposite you? Who goes first?

I usually pull out slowly, check for overtaking motorbikes too, keep moving and change to eye contact with those from the left and keep moving so they know you will shoot off if they signal you to go so they hardly have to slow, more just accomadate you being close in front. Lots of thankyou wave, maybe a tiny beep beep on the horn if they can't see you.
