Afternoon all.

I often find myself at this roundabout, in the middle lane (as per Audi)

My intention is to follow the (faint) road markings, which will ultimately put me in the inside lane on the roundabout at the traffic lights. As pictured here, where the Audi A4 estate is. I will then leave the roundabout at the next exit.

It's a daily occurrence, where people in the inside lane in the first link, cross into the middle lane with the same intention as I. Who's right and who's wrong?

I'm rather fed-up of driving defensively here because it's almost a cert EVERY time that someone will do this, and when the person to my right maintains their lane discipline, I end up having to brake/accelerate out of the situation.

I'm tempted to right to the council about this to somehow improve the markings. Either I'm just unfortunate or I'm in the wrong. I'd be surprised if it isn't an accident blank spot.

Looking at the links again, it's ironic how the Audi has actually maintained lane discipline! It's those in the left hand lane who seem to cross-over

Best advice I can give is stop thinking about right and wrong and think about what works most safely.

The Highway Code, rules 185,186 I think - we've done this a few times wink, make it clear that you can use the inside lane for left or straight on.

For the roundabout pictured the line painters' have done no-one any favours because the lane marking suggest that the middle lane is the "correct" one for 2nd exit.

Is there a sign before the roundabout advising on lanes to use?

Personally I'd choose the LH lane for 2nd exit to avoid the situation you describe. It would be "right" to the HC, perhaps not to the lane markings, but would give more time to focus on whether someone was going to cut me up from the right. Using the middle lane you have to watch both sides.

Obviously my suggestion would depend whether the road works were still there and if there was a lot of traffic turning left, etc.
