Renewal is due at the end of the month and I'm looking for companies that give genuine discount for IAM membership and / or are vehicle upgrade friendly as I'm considering the Mountune 140 upgrade for my Fiesta.

I've covered IAM Surety, Adrian Flux, Greenlight, Sky and my current insurer and I've had some very good quotes for both the standard and upgraded car. I'm actually suprised at how cheaply I can insure the Mountune version. Anyway, I'm looking for futher suggestions for companies that I'm not aware of that would be suitable.

One of the above claims you can add the Mountune upgrade free of charge and so you can. It's just that their quote for the standard car far exceeds the other quotes for the upgraded car.

Thanks in advance.

Haven't run a modified car for a few years now (must be getting old biggrin ) but AD-UK used to have a deal with Adrian Flux that gave you a discount for being a member of AD-UK (10%?) on top of IAM/RoSPA discount - not sure if that is still the case, but as a result they used to come in that little bit cheaper.

Thanks Chris. I've done the Ridedrive course and Flux give very nearly 20% discount for that. They also have a scheme that I'd never heard of before whereby in effect you can insure the excess. So, although their compulsory excess was high (£275) you can insure that for £34 effectively reducing it to zero. That results in a very competitive quote for the modified car.

I drive a highly modified car (well over double the standard bhp) - IAM surety ran out of room on their forms and declined to quote. Adrian Flux took down details of every single mod, quoted me a decent price (which included cover for replacing the mods) AND gave me an IAM discount.

Be careful, some companies will cover you with the mods, but the small print tells you that the car is still only covered at market value - fine if you've added a boost valve and some grooved discs, but not so clever if you have spent thousands on engine mods

Luckily, the Mountune upgrade can be insured as a model in its own right. Comes up on the lists as a Zetec S 140 so quoting is straightforward. Surety will cover the upgrade and have promised to beat the best quote I can get.

It's been an eye opener today with the worst quote a shade under two grand (excess £150) eek and the best under £300 and with only a £50 excess.
