Wasn't going to post this, but a day later I am still amazed that it actually happened...

M40 southbound yesterday mid-afternoon, about 200 yds after Warwick services. Approaching I see a small white car sideways across the hard shoulder; my thoughts: 'Car has spun off - how did you manage that all by yourself?'

As I get closer, car (new white Fiat 500) is actually in process of doing a 3-point turn with back end into L1; completes turn and drives wrong way down hard shoulder back to services. I see she's on the phone at the same time!!!

How can anyone who has a licence even contemplate doing this sort of thing? Really left me speechless!

I'm afraid this is way beyond bad driving and is simply idiotic ignorance.

Any money, if anybody had given her a little toot she'd have taken her one hand off the wheel to stick her fingers up at them.

With any luck, somebody's seen it on a camera and forwarded the tape to the constabulary. People like this need banning sine die.

Cheers, Jim

Perhaps she had dialled 999 legitimately because she believed there were hundreds of cars driving the wrong way along the M40 smile

biggrin

Seriously worrying driving though, numberplate?

It's very worth reporting this as she will have been caught on the CCTV to the service station - she really should not be driving based on this.

Speechless! this type of thing makes my blood boil, why should her 'issue' be more important than the safety of other drivers on that stretch? mad

I bet the phone call was to the person she was due to meet at the service station.

I'd say it's an advanced skill to go the wrong way along the M40 & not die.

It should be in Retarded Driving ( that being the logical opposite of Advanced Driving ) .

Reminds me of the chap I saw years ago reversing back around a roundabout not far from my house. He'd missed his exit...

It was made worse by the fact he was in a Volvo 340, was wearing a hat and had a labrador in the back. Honest!

Regaled here before, but driving up from Dover up the M2 (20 ?) I saw a statinary car on the hard shoulder, indicating left, then right. I moved over to lane 2 to let it onto the carriageway.

Imagine my surprise, nay Horror when Miss Daisy came right across in front of me, and into lane 3 heading BACK the way we had just come. So, she was now in lane 3 heading back towards Dover letting all of the Northbound traffic pass to her left. I on the other hand was in need of a clean set of undies, and called it in immediately.

Turns out, speaking to a traffic officer later, whe had gone all the way back (5 or 6 miles) to the next (last) junction, and gone up the on ramp, and onto the roundabout.

Shocking in the EXTREME !

One I won't forget in a hurry was turning left onto an uphill slip road to the M25 by Denham one evening, it was a sharpish left, so slightly unsighted. As I rounded the bend, just about to step on it to join the motorway, I came face to face with a 205 reversing back down the sliproad.

How that didn't end up in an ambulance I'll never know. It's often a mistake to under estimate the rank stupidity of other drivers.
