What is your nightmare driving scenario

My interest here is to discover just what it is that people don't want, do they don't want fear?
They obviously don't want to crash, but is that lack or loss of control?
What's your biggest driving nightmare, are you responsible for it?
Do you ever think about fixing it?
Are you "the" Don Palmer? The one who gets mentioned every time further training is mentioned?? They obviously don't want to crash, but is that lack or loss of control?

I fear mis timing an overtake. I also fear bends that tighten up mid bend. I also fear having to jack up my car, as Ford dont explain the jacking points very well!!
There are also many other fears, but they are all so unlikely i dont really worry. Such as stalling whilst pulling out onto a busy A road. etc
But overall i only really think about my driving "fears" when someone mentions bad driving or similar, its not really something that i lose sleep over.
Biggest everyday fear is suicide by traction control, when you try and pull out in a gap and it decides, nah... your not allowed any power.
Biggest real fear, lorrys pulling out on motorways, meeting someone coming around a blind bend on my side of the road.
Thats probably about it really other than the usual.

Yes this is he, I am doing a lot of writing currently and there is no point in it if its not interesting to folk like you who have more than a passing interest in driving. So a bit of research on what people actually want and/or don't want about their driving will make for something topical and interesting that people will want to read.
The underlying stuff is really what's driving my personal interest. So, if people get to satisfy their surface desires, the question is, what does that ultimately do for them?
For example, If understeer is my nightmare scenario and I can solve my understeer problem then I can: "feel good about myself", "feel like an expert driver", "become the racing driver I always knew I could", etc.etc.
Even if these underlying desires are untrue for others, people still have them for themselves and they will search out ways of getting what they really want for themselves.

My particular "fear" - more "annoyance" though - is approaching single carriageway left-hand bends and finding oncoming drivers cutting across the centre line.I know what to do about my own behaviour, in minimising the risk from those drivers.
The only other thing I don't particularly like is icy roads, but again they can be prepared for and dealt with, to a reasonable degree.
things falling off trucks into my path
for example a 4 place urinal/trough that fell off a lorry I had just pulled into lane 2 of a 2 lane DC to overtake. It broke into a dozen big bits of porcelain across the lane and I am still not sure to this day how I got away with no major damage.

Perhaps my biggest nightmare/fear is that the eejits are winning.
45 everywhere & 69 on the M-Way, don't indicate but make sure you have your council house lights and auto wipers on 24/7 & if you do, nobody will get really hurt and the whiplash will pay for Corfu this year.
Melodramatic? Well, ?, but that's what I really fear. Get into car, switch on engine, switch off brain and screw any driving standards is no way to fly (and will only get worse).
Can I work around it safely? Of course. However, an awful lot of people will suffer as a result of this malaise of thinking & lack of enforcement, education and anything else. Plus, at some point, so will I.
On a personal level, I don't actually fear that much but do dislike cars not working in the ways they ought to & hate that invariably you can't have a, b and c.

I've been fortunate enough not to have any serious accidents on the road in my 30 years driving and no injuries. One was being rear-ended when I stopped at lights. Not my fault, but avoidable by me.
3 where I have lost traction and had minor comings-together with inanimate road-side objects.
So the fear - losing traction and having an accident because my car-control skills still didn't save the day!
Bert
PS all my accidents were before I started trying to improve my driving.

I used to hate the Volvos with TC when I worked in a volvo garage, they did exactly that on damp roundabouts at about 50% of the speed needed to make the wheels slip or spin. They used to go straight on as soon as the power was cut.My answer to the thread is probably someone pulling out of a junction right in front of me as it'll hurt a lot being as I'm normally on a bike.
