A safe overtake??

Watch from about 7:00 onwards - overtake is at 7:25.
You can see that both the Green mondeo and the oncoming fiesta have to brake quite sharply to allow the police car back in.
It is my opinion that if the Fiesta hadn't braked sharply, the police car would have had nowhere to go, and there would have been a collision.
Was it safe?

He could have pulled out just after the crossing but it wasnt unsafe in essence. If he hadnt put his brakes on and slowed to enforce the stop of the Mondeo he would have been back on his side of the road with ample time.
The overtake could have been timed a little earlier but it wasnt and the Fiesta had to brake but nevermind, people are always having to brake when a Police car is on their side of the road. A daily occurence.

Bit tight. If plod spotted you doing that, you'd be in a spot of bother.
This kind of thing is rather annoying. People get done for failing to be in control if taking a drink/eating a Kitkat, but I have a clip of an unmarked police Impreza at high speed through a housing estate, one hand on the gear lever and one hand on a microphone.

Well wasn't he overtaking to carry out a stop on the vehicle, turning his blue lights on part way past to not alert the mondeo. Maybe the difference between a well executed stop preventing the need for a pursuit? Didn't really seem to cause any problems.
Gareth
Pretty much. Its an enforced stop, not an 'advanced' overtake and as such have to be quick, decisive and dont always look pretty. Gareth

Blimey,
Don't you guys like bashing the Police!
Shame some of you guys don't have video cameras in your cars so everyone here can have a look and tell you what they think!
I think there just doing their job!

I have to say, I'm in the job and it wasn't ideal, however it was a dynamic situation and nobody actually lost a bk... Speeds weren't massive either.

I'll carry that clip with me in case I get pulled for such a dodgy manoeuvre, then. PC Reasonable will have no choice but to let me off when he sees it.I'm lost for words- dangerous as anything. It's a shame some plod even try and defend this kind of thing. Guess I'll see you on traffic cops.
ETA: I'm 27 and have now got over my nobhead driving stage, but lots of younger people will watch that and think that kind of thing acceptable.

Well my driving to work is also "dynamic", and nobody has "lost a bk". I'm very surprised at the responses posted here sometimes.mybrainhurts said:

I never got rammed off the road once by a blue lighting plod changing gear & talking on the radio mid roundabout - oddly enough he couldn't steer at the time. What I've never understood is why the passenger wasn't talking on the radio for them, surely they were going to the same job?Bacon Is Proof said:
I was expecting a lot worse than that TBH.
The Mondeo driver is on the brake during the entire overtake and I disagree that either driver had to brake sharply.
The Fiesta certainly does - watch the nose dip.The Mondeo driver is on the brake during the entire overtake and I disagree that either driver had to brake sharply.
