I have tried to search for an answer to this - in the HC and then on this forum - but am coming up with nothing. Imagine a situation where there is a T-junction plus another side road - in effect a cross between a T and an F. On the main road there are two lanes in either direction. So it's a fairly wide area and a large junction. There is a no-U turn sign that is not immediately visible from some vantage points, for instance the far left hand lane, though it is there.

Set aside for a moment the fact that it is rather unobtrusive.

My question is this: what area does the U-turn prohibition cover? The area immediately around the sign? The entire junction (which is rather large)? How does one know where in fact it is not permitted to do a u-turn?

Arcane question perhaps, but I don't really know the answer. One could argue it covers the entire area - but then the fact that the signage is poor rather makes that difficult if it is not until half way through the complex that you spot the sign.

I don't know whether I've explained that very well, but interested in your views. Ta

Actually I've checked again and there is a clear no u-turn sign. It's small - but it is there.

For future reference though - over what distance is a no u-turn sign, or indeed any other prohibition, valid?

I would say it only covers the junction or gap it is immediately before.

I rarely see a no u-turn sign at any realy distance from the junction it is representing

There isn't a 'U-turn allowed' sign to signal the end of the no U-turn area though is there? So like the previous poster I'm now wondering if these signs have a set distance they are valid for?
