Hi Reg, have you done a video for young adults that having passed their test relatively recently, need to know how much more there is to learn?

I'm trying to convince my Son that he could benefit from something more than the foundational skills (i.e. the bare minimum) that he was taught to pass his test, since which time he has had three accidents (ditch finding only thank goodness).

I went out with him at the weekend and the lack of experience combined with the terrible habits he seems to have developed really made it an unpleasant experience (for both of us). I'm tempted to buy him some advanced driving lessons, but he doesn't need advanced yet, just better basic instruction which he won't take from his parents of course. I thought a video on that might help given their tendency to use that medium rather than a book.

From the perspective of a younger driver:-
You can lead a horse to water...

The local IAM may be able to help and many local groups will offer a bursary of sorts for younger drivers - The observers I have spoken to have all dealt with many people who needed help with the basics!

If he's already fallen off the road thrice and hasn't realised though, it may be a challenge in any case!

Is he at all interested in driving, or not at all? If he's interested in driving and wants to do better - Some ride-alongs with a good driver giving a commentary and demonstrating various techniques would probably be the most beneficial in terms of "attention paid" and encouraging learning.

I started at 18 by watching Reg's videos then going out and practicing - But that takes some self motivation.

"How Not To Crash" Would be perfect for your application, but again - That hinges on the book actually being read!

Where do you live? Some IAM groups (e.g. Gloucestershire, Bristol) have obtained sponsership that enables them to offer the IAM course (usual price £175) free to young drivers.

Reg, great videos. I always recommend them to those going on their standard or advanced courses in my force. They always get great feedback.

Not updated this thread for a while, but here’s my latest video - the first in a short series following a recent trip to Northern India.
