Hi

I recently had a Garmin C550 with a hire car which seemed really good.

Are the Tomtom systems better than the Garmin? If so what one?

I'm after something good with full UK and Europe maps for max £300.

Thanks

I'm working in the US and Canada at the moment and have got a Garmin something or other to use. Very good and much simpler than my TomTom. Will be replacing TT with Garmin at some point.

Garmin's after-sales support is second-to-none, whereas TomTom's can be anything but.

When I broke a button off my (out-of-warranty) Garmin, they said send it back for a free repair - they didn't repair it though, they sent me a brand new unit - this sort of thing is not uncommon...

Try sheffieldgps.co.uk they have some great deals and offer great advice. They prefer Garmin over Tom Tom. I have just bought a Garmin Nuvi 310 from them and it is superb
Good Luck

I've only had Garmin satnavs, from a Streetpilot III brick, then got an i3 and now a c510d and each one has been excellent! The SPIII was about 3yrs old and i rang up about a powerlead as there was a broken wire in the original one. They supplied it FOC thumbup

Cookieboy. After lots of reviews and testing a few out I would recommend the Garmin Nuvi 350.

I bought it for £229 inc delivery from here: www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/garmin-nuvi-350-sat-nav/10014/ you can get it £40-£50 cheaper if you don't require full maps of Europe. It's about the size of a deck of cards and comes with a carry case so its perfect to carry around in a pocket.

I have a TT700 which suits me but many are saying the Garmin is better.
Can you put via points into a route using Garmin? I have looked through the handbook and can only see mention of putting a STOP point in the route but then only one.

When I go out on PH runs I like to put the route into TT but this requires multiple via points to force it to go a route not of its own choosing. You can store the route and it is now quite common for these files to be posted on the forum prior to a run so that others can load the same route.

If you are in a route and add another stop it then asks if you want to go to the first place via the second place. Dunno if it'll do it with 3rds and 4ths via's tho.
